Hamburg - Grünkohlwanderung
This event is in the past.
The Oxford and Cambridge Society of Hamburg invite you to join them for an old wintertime custom in North Germany, the Grünkohlwanderung on Sunday, 19 February.
Meeting at 2.30pm at Poppenbüttel S-Bahn station for a two-to-three hour walk along the Alster river path, finishing at the waterside Zur Ratsmühle restaurant, near Ohlsdorf S-Bahn, for a hearty portion of kale stew with sausage and potatoes (alternative menu options by prior arrangement).
The event will go ahead in all but the most extremely inclement of weather conditions: warm clothing and sturdy footwear are therefore strongly recommended.
If you’re Northern German, the Grünkohlessen concept will need no further explanation. If you're not, please refer to this Wikipedia article for some background information.
