Hogarth's World in London
With Lars Tharp
Departing: Monday 17 June 2019
Returning: Tuesday 18 June 2019
Duration: 2 days
Spend two days on the serpentine trail of William Hogarth, winding through Georgian streets and alleys, following his progress from apprentice to England’s pre-eminent artist and social observer. We will come face-to-face with Hogarth at the National Portrait Gallery and Tate Britain, and see his work at Sir John Soane’s Museum.
Hogarth entertained his public with narrative stories in pictures, not words: his images are to be ‘read’, and many of his characters were lifted from the events of the day.
Through total immersion in the London of Hogarth’s lifetime, we will form a complex image of Georgian London.
- Discover the lively world of Hogarth
