Copenhagen is the epitome of Scandinavian culture where Modernist lamps light New Nordic tables and bridges over pristine waterways buzz with cycling commuters. It is also a photographer’s dream – few cultures have the reverence for simplicity, detail and understated beauty. These tenets drive everything from Copenhagen's colourful architecture to its world-famous furniture and lighting, which have created a city of genuine visual pleasure, laced with a sense of quiet wonder and delight.

This photographic and cultural adventure provides a creative environment, where alumni who are passionate about digital or film photography will receive inspiration, technical advice, and constructive feedback on their images. It will be a creative and inspirational exploration of one of Europe’s most impressive cities. With its strong cultural focus, the trip may also be suitable for partners or friends who are not photographers.

Whether you have a Nikon or Canon DSLR; a mirror-less M4/3camera; a point-and-shoot camera, or just an iPhone – learn how to compose, expose, and capture better images. This is an excellent opportunity to improve your photography and to experience the beauty and cultural heritage of Denmark’s capital city. The visit will take in some amazing Scandinavian architecture; urban landscapes; waterways; museums and galleries, and sites of literary significance. The diverse visits include a shoot in the Kronberg Castle (Hamlet’s Elsinore) as well as a visit to Karen Blixen’s House (‘Out of Africa’), the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and the iconic Carlsberg Brewery. Copenhagen's cultural offerings are rich and eclectic. Its royal palaces crammed with blue-blood jewels and there is even Scandinavia's largest collection of Islamic art, tucked away in a collector's neoclassical mansion.

The visit will be led by David Tolley who is a Visiting Artist/Tutor in Fine Art at The Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford, where he specialises in Photography and Film. He has exhibited in Germany, Australia, Greece, Poland, USA and the UK. He studied English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford (1997). David has personally researched this Copenhagen photographic itinerary and organised a similar and very successful visit for photographers in 2018. He will encourage the development of creative techniques and new approaches to photography and will provide technical advice and constructive feedback on everyone’s images. He’ll also bring a selection of photographic accessories for people to experiment with.
