A Journey through Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro
A Cultural Crossroads
Departing: Monday 20 May 2019
Returning: Wednesday 29 May 2019
Duration: 10 days
Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro have long been an important cultural crossroads and coveted prizes in the ebbing and flowing of empires and kingdoms. The journey distils the essence of all three countries and will unpick their complex layers of social and cultural history. For this is a crossroads of northern and southern as well as eastern and western cultures – from the Greek and Roman eras, early medieval kingdoms and Venetian, Ottoman and Habsburg conquests to the brief, ill-fated Yugoslavia and beyond.
The region has always tottered on one of Europe’s great historical fault lines, where the Catholic West meets Orthodox East and the flow of Islam reaches into so much of the region’s history. The multiculturalism and the complexities will be clarified not only through visits to the magnificent historical sites of incredible variety but also through the distinctly regional food, wine and song!
- The mesmerising beauty of changing landscapes from the Adriatic coast to soaring mountains and rolling vineyards
- Witness a special service with Orthodox pilgrims
