San Diego alumni gather for Boat Races event

  • Boat Race

On Sunday, 25 March the San Diego Alumni Society and our Oxonian colleagues met at The Shakespeare Pub in San Diego for our annual showing of the Boat Races. A very pleasant afternoon was enjoyed by all, especially as the results of both Races were in our favour. Prior to the Races, attendees had been invited to place free 'bets' on who would win and what the winning margins would be, for both the Men's and the Women's Races.

60 alumni and guests placed bets. As the winning margins were 3 lengths and 7 lengths respectively, 15 people got the Men's race correct and 6 got the Women's race correct. But only two got both correct, both Cambridge alumni guests and both ladies - Valeria Viggiano and Anita Beeston, wife of the President (no collusion, really).

A first and second prize, of a $100.00 and a $50.00 gift card respectively, had very kindly been donated by one of our Oxonian alums, Chris Richey, so there being joint winners, we split the $150.00 total and awarded the two winners $75.00 each, to great acclaim.

As both reserve boat races were also won by Cambridge, we are expecting an equally satisfactory result again next year. Go Cambridge!!
