The Cambridge Society of Jamaica hosted a Garden Party at the British High Commission last Saturday, November 24th. British High Commissioner to Jamaica and The Bahamas, Asif Ahmad gave the opening/ welcome and made an impassioned plea for more events and activities involving UK alumni and scholars. He stressed the importance of the "shared values" of past scholarship awardees in building bridges and pledged his assistance in helping to grow the UK Universities alumni network in Jamaica .

Cambridge Society President, Shazeeda Ali, thanked the High Commissioner for hosting the event as well as the guests and sponsors for their contribution to the event. Later she introduced Jamaican poet and University of the West Indies lecturer, Tanya Shirley Johnstone, who performed a recital of two of her works.

The garden party was a fundraising event for the Cambridge Society which is seeking to establish a fund, such as a book grant, to assist Jamaican students going to study in Cambridge.
