Martin is Laurence Professor of Classical Archaeology at Cambridge. For some years he has been carrying out research, along with a team from Cambridge, on the archaeology of Roman Aldborough, Yorkshire.

Aldborough, near Boroughbridge, is the site of Isurium Brigantum, the most northerly town in the Roman empire and capital of this region in Roman times. The Cambridge team has deployed the most advanced of modern surveying and prospecting techniques on Aldborough, with spectacular results.

There will be an opportunity for members of the Cambridge Society of York to visit the English Heritage historic site at Roman Aldborough on Sunday 31st July, the nearest convenient date to our traditional annual get together on Yorkshire Day. Please let me know if you would like to attend. Admission to the site is £5.60, (concessions £5.00) and pay on the day. We will meet at the site at 2.30pm for a visit at 3pm.  The Ship Inn serves food from 12 noon - 5pm, should you wish to eat before the visit.

Directions and further details are available online.
