The Cambridge Society of Hereford and Worcester welcomes you to their visit to the Elgar Birthplace Museum at the firs, followed by lunch and a talk by an Elgar expert Peter Sutton entitled "Elgar Country"

The event consists of a visit around the Elgar Museum followed by a two-course lunch at the Bear and Ragged Staff, a country pub 4.5 miles from Lower Broadheath; after lunch, Peter Sutton, a Malvern-based author, poet, lecturer, and playwright, will speak about the influence of Edward Elgar’s local surroundings on his music and read some of the poems from his newly published collection entitled “Elgar Country”.

Peter Sutton’s career has been devoted to adult education, writing, and translation, including a spell as Head of Publications at the UNESCO Institute for Education in Hamburg. His works include the play “Elgar and Alice” written in 2007 for the 150th anniversary of Elgar’s birth and a modern verse translation of William Langland’s great 14th-century poem Piers Plowman. Peter has led workshops and lectured on Elgar, Langland, translation, poetry, and education at events in a dozen countries, and he has lived and worked in Armenia, Germany, the UK, and the United States.
