Sydney - Behavioural Economics Talk
Sydney - Behavioural Economics Talk
Save the date, enjoy drinks and canapes with fellow alumni as you hear from behavioural economist, Professor Michelle Baddeley.
Michelle Baddeley is Director and Research Professor at the University of South Australia's Institute for Choice (I4C). She is an Honorary Professor with University College London’s Institute for Global Prosperity. She was Director of Studies for Economics and Fellow at Gonville and Caius College 1995-2013, and a lecturer for the Faculty of Economics at the University of Cambridge.
Michelle will talk about insights from her book Copycats and Contrarians, a multidisciplinary exploration of our human inclination to herd, and why our instinct to copy others can be dangerous in today’s interlinked world. Rioting teenagers, tumbling stock markets, and the spread of religious terrorism appear to have little in common, but all are driven by the same basic instincts: the tendency to herd, follow and imitate others.
