Alumni and guests are invited to join the Oxford and Cambridge Alumni Society, Czech Republic for a talk by Šimon Pánek on People in Need: Humility and Self-confidence.

Šimon Pánek is the executive director and co-founder of the non-profit organization People in Need. People in Need has become one of the largest non-profit organizations in Central Europe. The organization focuses on humanitarian and development aid, promotion of human rights, social work and education in the Czech Republic. Šimon also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Prague Civil Society Center. During November 1989 he was elected to the Presidency of the Coordinating Student Center, became a member of the Civic Forum and member of a special team of Václav Havel which negotiated the forming of a new democratic government.

Šimon will describe a journey from a group of volunteering friends to a non-profit organization with a budget of 2 billion CZK, changes, and challenges of building People in Need at home and in the world. He will also focus on the topics that People in Need tries to solve such as social exclusion, inclusion in education, debt and seizure of property anxiety in part of society, (weak) media education and critical thinking.
