Paris - Artists of Montmartre; the Pilgrims of Babylon
Alumni and guests are invited to join the Cambridge Society of Paris for The First Glory Days of Paris Lecture, given by Douglas Lyndon-Skeggs - Artists of Montmartre; the Pilgrims of Babylon.
Glory Days of Paris will consist of six lectures delivered over two years, 2019 and 2020, focusing on the Parisian literary and artistic world of the 1920s and ‘30s, with an introductory lecture to precede this period and a concluding lecture set in the ‘50s and ‘60s. The lectures will be held in iconic locations reflecting the topic of each lecture and, over and above, there will be ancillary events including themed walks, visits and exhibitions, in Paris and the UK.
The initial lecture will be on Artists of Montmartre; the Pilgrims of Babylon. This lecture sets the scene for Glory Days, leading from 1870 to 1910 when Picasso moved from Montmartre to Montparnasse, the start of our mythical époque.
The lecture will be given by Douglas Lyndon-Skeggs who read fine arts at Magdalene College Cambridge, has lectured on art and history since 1980, is the author of several books, creator of TV documentaries, and was a former director of The New Academy of Art Studies.
