Alumni and guests are invited to join the Cambridge Society in Nottinghamshire for a guided tour of the Museum of Timekeeping.

The award-winning Museum of Timekeeping forms part of the headquarters of the British Horological Institute at Upton Hall, near Southwell, and houses the most comprehensive collection of clocks, watches and other timepieces outside London.

We will assemble at 10.30am for tea or coffee at the Clock House Café, adjacent to the Museum. Our visit will begin at 11am.

The tour will feature an introduction to the history of the British Horological Institute and the Museum of Timekeeping and its collection, followed by a guided tour of a selection of artefacts and displays from the museum galleries and the stories behind them. We will hear the original speaking clock, see the watch taken to the Antarctic by Captain Scott and be enthralled by the story of John Harrison, saviour of thousands of lives by his invention of the chronometer. There will be time for questions at the end.

Our visit will be followed at 1.00pm by a one-course lunch followed by tea or coffee at the Clock House Café. There will be a choice between two dishes, please indicate your selection on the booking form. Other menu options, including soup and a sandwich, may also be available - please enquire at the time of booking.
