Norwich - Civilising the World - The Highways and Byways of International Justice
The Norfolk Cambridge Society cordially invites you to their sixth public lecture, to be given by Professor Sir Christopher Greenwood on the topic of 'Civilising the World - The Highways and Byways of International Justice'.
Professor Sir Christopher Greenwood
Sir Christopher is a former British judge at the International Court of Justice, on which he served from 2009 to 2018. Sir Christopher has been appointed as the new master of Magdalene College, Cambridge, and will be taking up his post from 1 October 2020.
International law is a most important topic for us all. It deals with the acquisition of territory, state immunity and the legal responsibility of states in their conduct with each other and plays a major role in helping to maintain international peace and security. It is also concerned with the treatment of individuals within state boundaries, including group rights, the treatment of aliens, the rights of refugees, international crimes, nationality problems and human rights generally. Nevertheless it gives plenty of moments of light relief, as Sir Christopher will no doubt mention!
