Alumni and guests are invited to join the Northumbrian Cambridge Association, for their AGM and Annual Lecture with guest speaker Prof Marina Frolova-Walker.
Professor Marina Frolova-Walker, who holds a Chair in Music History at Cambridge, and is a Fellow and Director of Music of Clare College, will give the lecture. Born in Russia, she studied at the Moscow Conservatory, completing her doctorate on the symphonies of the 19th century German composer Robert Schumann and their influence on Russian music. Between 1994 and 2000 she taught at various universities in the UK, including the University of Ulster, Goldsmiths College, the University of London and the University of Southampton. In 2000 she began teaching at Cambridge and in 2014 was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy. Her work on Russian music and nationalism, culture and politics is both scholarly and substantial. She is the author of Russian Music and Nationalism: from Glinka to Stalin (2008) and of Stalin’s Music Prize: Soviet Culture and Politics (2016) Her lecture is entitled “Stalin’s Playlist”
