In this talk Mike will explain the trigger in 1942, for the evacuation of the Telecommunications Research Establishment from Swanage on the South coast to Malvern. He will introduce us to six of the many ‘boffins’ that came to Malvern with the Telecommunications Research Establishment and, explain for each of them what they did, where they did it and what a difference it made. Mike will round off by talking about why the ‘six boffins’ became famous.

Mike Burstow was a scientist who joined the Royal Radar Establishment in 1965 and was trained as an electronic engineer. He worked on programmes as diverse as battlefield sensors, airborne radars and intelligence systems. Later as research director he was responsible for the direction and management of research in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
