Geneva - Visit to CMS Experiment at CERN
This event is in the past.
CMS is one of the two large detectors installed 100 m underground at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, which discovered the Higgs particle in 2012. This winter it will be open for maintenance allowing a good view of the innards of this 14,000 tonne, 15 metre diameter x 22 metre long detector.
The tour starts at midday at CERN, which means that if you start in and return to Zurich it is an all-day trip (eg 8.00am -8.30pm). You can buy a quick lunch in the CERN canteen.
The main event is on Saturday, 10 February, but there is an identical tour on Tuesday, 30 January. Please tell me if you have a preference for either date or if only one is possible.
Pay your own way to CERN, plus a fee of CH 25.- (not refundable) per person to cover the local expenses. Booking will only be confirmed upon payment of the fee.
There will be preference to club members, but if there is space you may be able to bring one guest (minimum age of 10 years).
If you would like to attend please email Quentin using the link below.
