Dorset - 'Ransome in Russia' - A talk by Ted Alexander
Dorset - 'Ransome in Russia' - A talk by Ted Alexander
Alumni and guests are invited to join the Cambridge Society of Dorset for a historical talk about Arthur Ransome’s extraordinary time in Russia and the Baltic, followed by a buffet lunch.
He will also bring some rare archive material for us to see. This important aspect of Ransome’s life is well worth appreciating and occurred long before this wonderful writer gave us the children’s classics about the Swallows and Amazons.

Location
Lymington is not far from the redrawn borders of Dorset and is where the legendary Sir Nigel led his White Company, from Twynham Castle (Christchurch), before taking ship to join with Henry V at Agincourt, as told by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle! It is a new venue for us which offers plenty of interest and the opportunity for a short walk after lunch to view the lovely Western Solent and Needles. If any members can offer or require a lift, please let us know. Lymington can also be reached by train, and we can provide lifts from Lymington Town station to the Yacht Club; again please let us know. Further details are given with the attached booking form.
