Election of the Chancellor 14 and 15 October 2011
An election by members of the Senate to elect a Chancellor of the University of Cambridge in succession to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, will take place in the Senate House on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 October 2011.

Cambridge Union Society Hustings
The Cambridge Union Society has invited the four candidates for Chancellor to address members of the University in the week preceding the election. The Union invites all alumni to attend on a first come, first served basis, and further details can be found on the Cambridge Union Society website

Alumni Weekend

We are looking forward to welcoming around 1000 alumni and guests from 25 countries worldwide to this year's Alumni Weekend.

If you haven't already booked, booking will remain open throughout the weekend. You can either book online or see one of our members of staff who will manage the booking for you.

Submit your questions to the Vice-Chancellor
On Saturday 24 September, Stephen Sackur, journalist with the BBC since 1986, will be interviewing the Vice-Chancellor on topical issues, as well as giving alumni the chance to ask their own questions. If you would like the opportunity to ask a question, email events@alumni.cam.ac.uk by 5pm on Friday 23 September.

Cavendish Laboratory
Cavendish Laboratory - Alumni Open Day
Friday 23 September
The Cavendish Laboratory is opening its doors to all alumni for an afternoon of stimulation and learning. Starting with a lecture at 2.00pm, alumni will then have the opportunity to explore the many research areas of the laboratory including Astrophysics and Nanophotonics.

Please note this event takes place on Friday 23 September and not Saturday 24 September as advertised in the Alumni Weekend brochure.
Munich Drinks Reception - save the date

An evening reception will be held as part of the LERU (League of European Research Universities) Conference taking place at LMU München on Thursday 3 November. All alumni are welcome to attend and more details will be available shortly. Contact events@alumni.cam.ac.uk to register your interest.

Centre for Rising Powers - Bargaining with the BRICs
Tuesday 1 November
This new centre within the Department of Politics and International Relations, is holding a panel discussion on Bargaining with the BRICs at 5-6.30pm in Seminar Room A, 17 Mill Lane, on Tuesday 1 November. Each panel member is a former British Ambassador to one of the BRIC countries, and their topics of discussion will include how these countries perceive themselves, and how the developed world can best engage with them.

CARO Notices
New discount with Britten Sinfonia

Cambridge University’s resident orchestra is offering a £5 discount to alumni at their upcoming Southbank Centre performance on Friday 7 October. Norwegian virtuoso violinist Henning Kraggerud will feature in the programme, which includes Mahler’s arrangement of Schubert’s Death and the Maiden.
