News from the newly formed Group
I thought you might be interested to hear of recent events concerning the newly formed Cambridge Alumni Association of the Kyrgyz Republic and Kazakhstan, for which I am the contact. In December, just after the Group was officially formed, I was delighted to welcome Sarah Legrand (Trinity 2001), who was visiting Almaty. The school, International House Almaty, at which I am a teacher, holds a monthly mountain walk and as this coincided with Sarah’s visit to Kazakhstan, I invited her to join us. We had a wonderful walk in the Tian Shan mountains and enjoyed some views of the peaks once we got above the clouds. We had a great day and it was good to get to know Sarah (Trinity 2001). There are two great pictures from this trip on our Group’s page.
In 2012 I also made contact with Karen Wykurz (Sidney Sussex 2004) and we held the ‘Inaugural Meeting of the Kazakh-Kyrgyz Cambridge Alumni Society’ in Almaty, Kazakhstan on 25 February. We had a meal of delicacies unavailable to Karen in the Fergana Valley and hope to meet up again when possible. Karen is working for the Foundation for Tolerance International (a Kyrgyz NGO) in Osh.”
