Oxford & Cambridge Society of Toronto Boat Race Dinner
The 85th Annual Cambridge Society of Toronto and the first ever Oxford & Cambridge Society of Toronto Boat Race Dinner was held on Tuesday May 17th with 140 Alumni of Oxford & Cambridge including former Prime Minister of Canada, Hon. John Turner, (Oxon), and their guests in attedance. Ilse Treurnicht, (Balliol), CEO of the MaRS Discovery District was our guest speaker. MaRS, originally Medical and Related Sciences, brings together researchers, lenders, intellectual property lawyers and other resources with the goal of enhancing the process of innovation.
We invited two of the Blyth Commonwealth Scholars, Sumner Braund & Angela Wan who will be starting full-time undergraduate studies at Cambridge in October 2011. Angela told us that she had chosen Cambridge becuase she saw that more Nobel Prize winners had studied there than at any other university. We expanded our time-honoured Roll Call of the colleges to include all the Colleges of both Universities in Chronological order, giving everyone a chance to connect with members of their own College.
Everyone agreed that the first joint dinner was a geat success and since there are two teams in the Boat Race, this is the most approriate arrangement.
