The Cambridge Society of Toronto
The 4th annual Oxford vs. Cambridge Boat Race Toronto style took place on September 20 2009 at the Argonaut Rowing Club in Toronto.
Once again the sun shone on the rowers and a group of over 40 supporters who gathered to watch the races, consisting of two coxed fours and the highlight of the afternoon, the 8's. Both crews had been practising together through the summer and the Cambridge rowers expected that they would have to be on their best form to win. And win, they did...all three races. The photo shows the light blues winning the 8's by just under 2 lengths.
In speeches following the races, Daniel Kaute, Churchill, who has organized the training sessions for the light blues, said that this year marked the birth of a new rowing community in Toronto, where being out on the water together is more important than who "wins" on any given day. The series is now tied with 2 wins apiece.
